As talks of resolutions take place in the ECOSOC committee, new information comes to light sourced from refugees who left the unstable sub-saharan region. A thunderstorm has completely devastated the region, giving place to political uprisings and unrest. Will the US be able to control the situation through troops? Or will Madagascar get in the way?
Climate change has recently been the source of various issues in the sub-Saharan region, being brought up in the ECOSOC committee in the United Nations. Nations in the region have experienced long periods of drought, and desperately require humanitarian aid to continue functioning. Various blocs have tried passing resolutions to no avail: some being considered thoroughly incomplete and insufficient in addressing the issue, and some being too vague and not specific in solving the issue. The delegation of Chad asks the committee, “How will the US guarantee that funds will be invested into the right places?”. The outrageous claim directed towards the United States, painting it as a supporter of modern corruption, has raised controversy before the recent discovery.

A new piece of information has just sparked debates in the United Nations after the discussion of a new resolution! It has been reported that thunderstorms have devastated some African nations, increasing the rate of hunger exponentially, and turning a tide of aggression over the countries of Mozambique, Kenya, Malawi, Chad and Madagascar, making people turn to physical violence to search for food.  In urgent circumstances, the US sent some of its troops to these areas to promote security and internal peace, but Madagascar critiques its decision stating that the United States is “too imperialist and it does whatever it wants”. The delegation representing Madagascar thoroughly believes that the US is directly undermining the countries’ sovereignty, and instead of actually helping, implementing “temporary American dictatorships” throughout the continent.

As talks about climate change deepen, one can only wonder if conflict will emerge between Madagascar and the United States of America. The US claims that its intervention aims to keep the nation secure, but Madagascar believes that the countries have their own autonomy to stop the conflict, but is that really possible? The US, with its military prowess, could completely devastate the nation of Madagascar. But will countries be able to focus on what really matters? Or will climate change remain in the background as always?
