Foreign nations are undermining Syria’s Sovereignty! Will the US ever stop poking its nose where it isn’t welcome?

The Security Council is going into session to discuss the state of the Syrian War. The conflict, having started domestically, has attracted the interference of various national powers, which aim to cripple Syria as a whole. A major decrease in quality of life has been observed, attributed to the US blockade! Is the US being fair with its policies, or are Syria’s people being punished for crimes they did not commit?

As the Security Council commences a new session to discuss the Syrian Civil War, a tragic dispute that has been taking place since March 2011, I thoroughly align myself with Syria’s sovereignty. Presently, Bashar al-Assad is the legitimate president, and his reign perseveres as a symbol of stability against many of the illegal actions taken by the international community.  For many decades, the ancestors of al-Assad have been key figures in the Ba’ath party, standing by important values taught by Islam, and their leadership brings a sense of familiarity and trust to the Syrian population.

President Bashar al-Assad remains resolute in establishing peace in the nation. Despite the relentless opposition from foreign nations, the President has achieved many victories in this fight against terrorism. Assad has established various diplomatic achievements with regional allies, which include: The UAE and Bahrain reopening their embassies in Damascus, Jordan and Egypt, expressing the desire to reinstate economic and trade deals with Syria, and the Arab Energy Conference being designated to take place in Syrian territory. These are some of the various accomplishments Assad has made, which make way for a new chapter in Syria’s foreign policies, actively fighting against unjust sanctions put forward by the US. The Syrian Arab Army is also a symbol of power and resolve, and its unwavering loyalty to Assad reflects the nation’s commitment to defending its sovereignty. It can be said that without the president, the system of power in the country would collapse, including his prosperous army. Without Assad, terrorists would take over the nation.

The Syrian Civil War, which could be said that begun with desires for political changes, was swiftly hijacked by foreign powers vying to extend their influence into the nation. Turkey has committed various crimes towards our citizens, and solely in the beginning of 2020, cut off the water 15 times, a crime forbidden by all international laws. The UN Security Council has failed to recognize Turkish aggression, leaving Syria vulnerable and unjustly harmed. Additionally, Turkey has shown support for opposite factions, which pose a direct threat to Syria’s self-determination and territorial integrity. This conflict has dragged on far too long due to Turkey’s foreign interference, causing the deaths of many. As well as consistently resisting Turkish intervention, Syria has also confronted US aggression. The US has led a multi-dimensional war on Syria, harming our nation politically, economically, and especially through the media. This nation has imposed a brutal economic blockade on Syria, making it extremely difficult to access essential goods, leading to reduced funding for aid organizations and restricting travel. As a result, the Syrian population has seen their health at risk, especially with the recent earthquake which devastated Syria. The US has also sent out various air strikes on Syria and its allies, unjustly and in order to weaken its army, which in the region attacked, was fighting the terrorist group Daesh [ISIL]. This proves that the US is a leading cause of global instability, putting innocent Syrians at risk for their own gain.
Despite the immense challenges posed by international powers and internal opposition, I believe Syria will continue to withhold its territorial integrity and be led by its legitimate leader, al-Assad.
