JUNIOR HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

Topic: Tackling the treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang
Committee Description:

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2006, the Human Rights Council is a major intergovernmental agency of the UN. The Council is made up of 47 Member Seats, all elected by the General Assembly for three-year terms; however, there are also observer states and non-governmental or intergovernmental organizations who can partake in committee discussions but do not have the right to vote. The UNHRC is concerned with tackling human rights issues, as well as reinforcing its protection and advocacy all around the world. The Council's duties consist of investigating specific human rights violations, and proposing solutions or recommendations to ameliorate the crises and promote human rights worldwide.
