Committee Description:
Established in 1945, the United Nations Security Council is currently one of the six main bodies of the United Nations. It is the role of the Security Council to respond to crises from all around the world, for the maintenance of international peace and security. Under the 25th Article of the UN Charter, all members of the United Nations must comply with and carry out any decision made by the Security Council, making the UNSC the sole committee allowed to make obligatory decisions. Other committees only have the power to make recommendations to the participating states. Usually, the Security Council has 15 member states, being five of them the P5. The P5 countries are the only permanent members of the UNSC and have the right to veto a resolution, as long as their vetoes are accepted by the Dais. The other members do not withhold the veto power, and are elected, for a two year term.
